An evening to learn about treating feline hyperthyroidism
South Australia's Internal Medicine Specialist, Dr David Davies and Nursing Director, Donna Wasylkiw presented by Hills and Adelaide Veterinary Specialist and Referral Centre.

Please arrive at 6.00pm for a 6.15pm start
Adelaide Zoo - Main entrance off Plane Tree Drive.
Welcome drinks and canapes will be served in the Asia Jungle overlooking the Sumatran orangutan and tiger enclosures with the opportunity to get up and close to one of the Sumatran tigers. Followed by presentations in Sanctuary Function Centre.

In this seminar we will discuss:

  • The epidemic of feline hyperthyroidism
  • Treatment options for hyperthyroid cats - radioactive iodine, antithyroid medication, thyroidectomy, low-iodone diet
  • Selection of cats for radioactive iodine therapy
  • The thyroids and the kidneys
  • Nursing care of the hyperthyroid cat

Key learning aims:

  • To appreciate that hyperthyroidism is a common endocrine disease of older cats and is eminently treatable
  • To know the available treatment options for feline hyperthyroidism and determine the optimal treatment for each individual cat
  • To understand the isolation and handling requirements for radioactive iodine-treated cats
  • To recognise that thyroid and kidney functions are interdependent

This event is eligible for 1.5 VetEd points from the AVA. The National Industry Advisory Group for Veterinary Nursing has allocated 1.5 CPD points to this continuing education activity. Please provide your full name, title and member number when registering.
