Construction of the Adelaide Veterinary Specialist and Referral Centre (AVSARC) commenced in late 1999 and was completed in April 2000. AVSARC is a state-of-the-art referral facility specifically designed for the treatment of animals with medical or surgical conditions, requiring specialised equipment or expertise beyond that which can be provided in a general veterinary practice.
The
founding directors of AVSARC are Dr Ian Douglas and Dr Tony Read,
pictured at the official opening, performed by Senator Natasha Stott-Despoja,
on the 25th June 2000.
Located close to the eastern edge of the Adelaide CBD, the facility has been designed to provide an outstanding level of pet care and incorporates consultation, treatment, imaging and theatre suites. Dogs and cats are housed in separate wards, with intensive care and isolation facilities. Zoned air-conditioning ensures maximum comfort levels for patients at all times.
